Finding the time between two calendar dates
This calculator compares a start date and an end date and reports the elapsed difference. It is useful when you need an exact date-to-date interval rather than an estimate based on months of equal length.
Calendar dates are not uniform units
A month can contain 28, 29, 30 or 31 days, so “three months” is not a fixed number of days. The tool therefore works from the actual dates selected.
Typical uses
- Measuring the number of days between deadlines or events.
- Checking the duration of a project, trip or waiting period.
- Comparing a calendar interval with the Business Days Calculator when weekends should be excluded.
Inclusive vs exclusive counting
Different organisations may count both the start and end date, only one boundary, or neither. If a contract, benefit or legal rule defines its own counting convention, follow that rule rather than assuming a generic date difference is equivalent.
See the Date Calculations Guide for more examples.
