Calculating age with calendar dates
The age calculator compares a date of birth with a selected “age on” date. It works with calendar years, months and days rather than simply dividing elapsed days by 365.
Why calendar arithmetic matters
Months have different lengths and leap years add an extra day. A calendar-based calculation adjusts the year, month and day components so the result reflects the actual date boundaries.
Common uses
- Checking an age on a historical or future date.
- Calculating elapsed age for forms, records or personal planning.
- Avoiding rough approximations based only on the number of days.
Important date convention
The calculation treats the dates selected in the browser as calendar dates. For legal age cut-offs or eligibility rules, the governing organisation's definition should take priority because some rules specify exact times, inclusive dates or local time zones.
